Fern River Horse Treks

We offer you the choice of riding on our fabulous and wild west coast beach Waimamaku and visiting historical Kawerua, or trekking over hill country farmland with breathtaking views all the way to Maunganui Bluff to the South and Mitimiti/Pungaru to the North. Learn of our rich history both European and Maori as you enjoy your personalised ride with your head guide Tim Reuben. Tim is what we call a ‘local’ around here and descends from both European and Maori heritage, Tangatawhenua of Te Roroa.

Having worked as a stockman for many years using horses as the main means of transport, Tim’s experience ensures a safe and enjoyable experience when trekking with Fern River. Tim will also share with you the history and stories of the area that have been handed down to him from his forefathers.

The duration of your ride can be tailored to suit 1-3 hours across farmland or as long as you like on the beach. In today’s busy and crowded world, there is a place you can come to and enjoy the beauty and serenity of a virtually untouched land, here in the majestic Hokianga region, Northland, New Zealand.
